Building Brighter Futures

The Big Expedition draft itinerary for guidance only

25th March - 16th April 2010

Day One (Thursday)

Leave Heathrow in the evening for a direct flight to Entebbe airport in Uganda.  Price permitting on a scheduled British Airways flight flying direct.

Day Two (Friday)

After being met at the airport your transport will take you to the capital city Kampala for breakfast and allow time to change money etc before splitting into your working groups and leaving the busy city for your first hotel in either in Mityana or Mbale. Each group will have experienced trustees from BBF with them to make the visit as enjoyable as possible.

Day three (Saturday)

After breakfast we travel out of town on dirt roads to the school for a warm welcome and your chance to meet the teachers and children before starting work on the chosen project.

Day Four (Sunday)

After breakfast we travel to the local church to share in the service or just watch and witness this truly memorable experience.  After church we will share lunch with the children eating traditional food in traditional surroundings before carrying on our work in between playing and interacting with the children.  After an emotionally exhausting day we return to the hotel to relax.

Day Five (Monday) through to day Seven (Wednesday)

Another day visiting the schools and continuing our projects, as it is a week day the children will be in lessons, we can join them and assist the teachers or just watch when the project work gets too tiring!

The trip is your trip so hopefully we can cater for everyone¹s interests, some of the team may be very involved in the class rooms while others may like to run ³After School Activities², hopefully everyone can do a bit of it all but importantly enjoy it.

On Wednesday we say goodbye to everyone as we leave after the first phase of our adventure draws to a close.

Day Eight (Thursday)

After a good breakfast we head back to Jinja where we meet up with the other group and enjoy a relaxing afternoon and evening round the swimming pool telling our stories and enjoying a cold beer (over 18¹s only!).

Free time to relax, have an early night or try to keep the bar open until dawn, the choice is yours.

Day Nine (Friday) through to Day Twelve (Monday)

We wake up in the tranquil grounds of The Kingfisher Safari Resort and after a hearty breakfast board a boat to visit the source of the River Nile. The plans for this part of the trip are not fixed, but some may go camping with the Scouts from our two schools, others may work with groups of children from the schools and show them the sights others may explore the local shops or we may do a bit of it all!

Day Thirteen (Tuesday)

Back in the vehicles to start the next phase of the trip, swapping schools we head off to see the results of the previous teams efforts and all experience a completely different Uganda to the week before.

Day Fourteen (Wednesday) through to Day Seventeen (Saturday)

After breakfast we travel out of town on dirt roads to the new school for a warm welcome and your chance to meet the teachers and children before starting work on our second project. Saturday is not a school day so our last day will be fun and games with the children before we leave and head back to our guest house and pack for an early start in the morning.

Day Eighteen (Sunday)

We leave our rural locations heading for Kampala to meet up with the other group, a night of more stories and anticipation of what is coming next.

Day Nineteen (Monday).

We leave Kampala early in the morning missing the rush hour as we head off for our Safari or Gorilla trekking in the west of the country.

After a long drive we stop at a luxury safari lodge where we experience fantastic five star service and free time to relax as you please.

Day Twenty (Tuesday) and Day Twenty One (Wednesday)
